Simple Question For You Old-Time Collectors
« on: March 25, 2010, 09:54:42 PM »
Do you consider any of these to actually be part of what is considered the 'mainline' of Hot Wheels:

Scene Machines
The Heroes
Park 'n' Plates
Hi-Rakers
The Extras

I have my opinion, but I want to hear some input from the rest of you knowledgeable collectors that were doing this back in the day when these first came out. I'll comment in a bit, after a few of you do.

Thanks for your input!

I'd go with Hi-Rakers only, but if I collected a casting that was in any of those series I'd need to have it for sure.

Please note that I changed my initial post to include "The Extras" line of cars.

I don't remember their pricing scheme, but I don't think that they would be considered part of the 'mainline' either.

What do you all think about them as being considered 'mainline'?

I tend to consider mainlines any casting that came in a standard HW package. Hi-Rakers came in a standard pack, with just a bit more writing on them. I would say extras are mainline also. Scene Machines had their own packaging so I'd say no. However, some things change over time. For example, Real Riders used to be mainline, but are now special editions or limited series. That said, a TH with real riders would be considered mainline.

Yeah i am with Steve on this one if it came in a blue blister pack it is mainline  if it came in any other packaging it was a special edition  especially if it came in  or with  another  plastic box like park n plate or  an extra part anything that  cost more than a buck  off the pegs are usually limited  series  ;) which  most come with nice rubber tyres and not the hard plastic
