I'm mostly a real music kind of guy; county, rock n' roll. That's said, I like pretty much everything. The occasional club song might even catch my ear as I channel surf. I refuse to become dated. Most of the songs today are flash in the pan type songs. You're not going to be listening to Lady Ga Ga much past a few months. Even so, I try to find some value to any music. A Fire Fly song came on the other day and my first reaction was "what type of drugs was this guy taking." After hearing this song several times on my commute to work, I tried to understand the lyrics. It's basically a song about dreams in a childish recollection. Sure enough, after seeing a Youtube video, my thoughts were confirmed. I guess in a time when most things are downers (economy, politics, war, etc..) a goofy song about fire flies isn't so bad. Sure, it sucks and it won't have air play a year from now, but at least it's upbeat. Whether it comes from rock, country, club, or techno, IMO the world could use a bit more upbeat in music.
